OnCore Manufacturing Recognized as a Supplier to a Finalist for 2012 Medical Design Excellence Awards: iWalk’s BiOM Bionic Ankle System

San Jose, CA May 13, 2012 – OnCore Manufacturing, LLC (OnCore) announced that it was selected as a supplier to 2012 Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA) finalist, iWalk, designer of the BiOM, the world’s first bionic ankle system that utilizes robotics to restore the function of the missing anatomy in the calf muscle and Achilles tendon.
“We are proud to have been asked to be part of the iWalk team because of the life-changing impact that the BiOM has on the lives of its users,” said Dan Perez, President and CEO of OnCore. “Allowing medical device companies, such as iWalk, to bring their visions to reality is what OnCore Medical’s complete product-lifecycle services are designed to provide. Being a finalist in Medical Design Excellence Awards competition requires not only a unique and exceptional design but teamwork throughout the entire product lifecycle. iWalk being a finalist is a tribute to how closely the team works together.”
The MDEA is the medical device industry’s premier design awards competition and is the only awards program that exclusively recognizes contributions and advances in the design of medical products. Entries are evaluated on the basis of their design and engineering features, including innovative use of materials, user-related functions that improve healthcare delivery and change traditional medical attitudes or practices. Judges also consider features that provide enhanced benefits to the patient, and the ability of the product development team to overcome design and engineering challenges so that the product meets its clinical objectives.
